Carpets from the Baku Peninsula and known as Khila are rare and this dated example makes for a fascinating and beautiful rug. The unusually tasteful and sophisticated colour way reflects an urbanised aesthetic and the probable proximity to Baku city and that of the possibility of a professional workshop.
Condition: Pile is evenly low but not worn except areas of black where normal oxidisation has taken place
